UniProtKB description: Ferric-siderophore reductase involved in iron removal from the siderophores after their transport into the cell (PubMed:34308084). Interacts with the siderophores acinetobactin (Acb) and preacinetobactin (pre-Acb) and catalyzes the reduction of the ferric iron bound to the siderophores to ferrous iron, resulting in destabilization of the siderophore chelation complex and entrance of ferrous iron into the intracellular pool of bioavailable metals (PubMed:34308084). Can use NADH and NADPH as electron donors in vitro, but the reduction rate is very slow, suggesting that NADH and NADPH are not the physiological partners of BauF (PubMed:34308084).
