UniProtKB description: Pseudokinase (PubMed:21708941, PubMed:23144612). Essential for virulence in the type I lineage (PubMed:21436047, PubMed:21586633, PubMed:21708941, PubMed:22802726, PubMed:26699401). Mediates parasite survival in mouse monocytes (PubMed:23144612). Required for the parasite ability to resist mouse innate immune effectors triggered by the IFN-gamma (IFNG) (PubMed:23144612). Reduces the accumulation of mouse IRGA6 (IIGP1) and IRGB6 (TGTP1/TGTP2), immunity-related GTPases (IRGs) that protect mice from infection by certain intracellular pathogens, on the parasitophorous vacuole and IRG-mediated killing of parasites by mouse cells (PubMed:22761577, PubMed:22802726). Regulates the activity of ROP18, an active kinase that targets IRGs to prevent IRG-mediated parasite killing by mouse cells (PubMed:22802726, PubMed:23144612). Acts as an allosteric inhibitor of mouse IRGA6 (IIGP1) (PubMed:22761577, PubMed:25118287). Does not affect IFN-gamma (IFNG)-mediated parasite killing in human cells that do not possess the large variety of IRGs (PubMed:22761577).
